Carry On Teacher is where things started to turn much more saucy. They also went for a lot of easy laughs with visual gags, but they are amusing. The cast are all on fire and raring to go, solidifying their chemistry even further.
Joan Sims is cast here as Miss Allcock, the school hottie. She wound up playing frumpier characters later on. Leslie Philips and all his "ding dongs" were clever. Too bad he left the series so early on.

Carry On Teacher, for my money, is easily amongst the most underrated films in the Carry On series. It is definitely my favourite of the early Carry Ons, and is a thoroughly charming effort.. While I wouldn't call it perfect, I still think that it has plenty to offer. The plot is classic Carry On fare. It is really fun, with plenty of good jokes and some truly excellent slapstick. The scene in the sabotaged staff room will never not make me laugh. The script gives everyone a chance to shine and show off their wonderful comic timing. The cast for Carry On Teacher is fantastic. It features several of the regulars as well as a few new faces. All…

Review by Paul Elliott ★★★
The students at Maudlin Street School are hell-bent on keeping their beloved acting headmaster, William Wakefield (Ted Ray), from taking a new job in this 1959 British comedy Carry On Teacher. The film thankfully lacks the signature bawdy humour that soon came to overwhelm the Carry On series, which was held off until the arrival of screenwriter Talbot Rothwell. Although future Man From U.N.C.L.E. scribe Hudis does manage to slip in some innuendo here and there, there's a prevailing tone that is sweet rather than raunchy.
The likeable Ray was intended to be a significant figure in the Carry On franchise, and it's immediately understandable why director Gerald Thomas and producer Peter Rogers favoured him. As the star of the…

It's been absolutely ages since I watched a Carry On film but I used to watch them all the time when I was a kid.
The thing is that I can only really remember the later ones being on that much when I was younger. The earlier ones tended to be stuck on in the afternoon for some reason, if they were on at all, while Carry On Up The Khyber (the best one) and others sometimes even got primetime slots.
I can sort of understand why. I think the later ones were a lot more directly smutty and filled with a lot more gags, making them a bit easier to like. The earlier ones felt like they were trying…

Carry On Teacher is a Carry On film that I always enjoy coming back to again and again. It is definitely my favourite of the Norman Hudis scripted era. Its a completely charming and rather innocent entry. While it isn't without it's flaws, I still enjoy watching it. The plot is one that screams Carry On. It is fun and full of many great jokes and moments of more physical comedy. The booby trap staff room sequence is fantastic. The script provides the cast with plenty of moments to show off their comedic talents. The cast for Carry On Teacher is fantastic and features several of the regulars as well as some new faces. All give really fun performances. Hattie…

As with many a Carry On, this early film in the series allows one of the ensemble to steal the show. This time around its Joan Sims as the punningly named gym mistress Miss Allcock. She showcases her impeccable flair for comedy, as well as her statuesque natural beauty - something which was later neglected in the series when she was overshadowed by younger up and coming performers like Barbara Windsor. Needless to say the scene where her incredibly tight shorts split remains a highlight!
These early black and white Carry On's bridge the gap between Ealing comedy and the bawdier instalments in the series that occurred in the 60s and specifically the 70s, but are no less enjoyable for it. In fact the actual benefit from the quaintly charming subtlety on offer. Look out for the very young Richard O'Sullivan and Carol White as a pair of mischief making pupils.

The first and only Carry On film I've seen since I borrowed my British Nana's taped off Tv copy of Carry On Screaming as a kid in 1991.
Not the more bawdy type of British humour I'm assuming the series later progressed to, this one has a group of students sabotaging the efforts of their beloved longtime Headmaster to move on to a better job at different school near where he lives.
They do this through a series of practical jokes and pranks as well as messing up the school's production of Romeo and Juliet.
The cast are hilarious with the standouts being Charles Hawtrey as the originally named Mr. Bean, Kenneth Connor, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Joan Sims and…

This one actually has a decent plot, rather than just a string of loosely connected gags.
Looks like I'll have to Carry On with my Carry On Marathon.

This school-based variation on St Trinian's, with the little horrors (including a very young Richard O'Sullivan) driving their teachers mad, was one of the earliest of the Carry On series and a particularly good one.
Key members of the team come together here - Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims (always worth watching, hilarious), Hattie Jacques, and Kenneth Connor - alongside other showy actors such as Ted Ray, Leslie Phillips, and Rosalind Knight.
Names are punning as ever (Sims is 'Miss Allcock') and the action is fun, frenetic, and entertaining. I loved the scene with the itching powder that ruins a meeting; as well as the chaos in the staff room - not to mention of course the goings-on with the two horny couples (Phillips and Sims; Connor and Knight). Never a dull moment.

One of my favourite entries from the early years of the series, Carry On Teacher is one of the more underrated Carry On films. It is a delightfully charming effort. While its not a film that I would describe as perfect, I still find Carry On Teacher to be a film that has some really fun things to offer. The plot is textbook Carry On. Its fun with plenty of amusing twists and turns, many good jokes and some stellar moments of slapstick. The scene with the sabotaged staff room will never fail to make me Laugh. The cast for Carry On Teacher is fantastic. It features a nice mix of Carry On regulars and some new faces. All are…
