Looking forward to the AIA/NBAA event on Jan 23, which promises in-depth discussions on pivotal aviation safety topics. The focus on staffing shortages, safety concerns, and the complexities of ownership and leasing is timely and crucial. #aviationsafety

One of the last big things I did before the Covid outbreak in 2020 was an Airmic Academy event about slips & tripsPartnering with Airmic, BLM, Hammersbach Consulting and (at the time consultant) Claire Combes, we had about 60 people in the room - typically safety, risk and insurance managers from corporates - for half a dayWe covered:✅ Statistics (why these incidents are more serious than you may have thought)✅ Reputational damage e.g. the large Tesco and Co-Op fines✅ Scenarios in different sectors with a slip/trip issue and debating how to address it (see the whiteboard image for some examples)✅ How to prevent accidents using CHIMES✅ Claims defensibility best practices✅ How to make the business case to your board for investment in proactive slip/trip risk managementWhat was pleasing was the feedback to Airmic was overwhelmingly positiveIf you'd like to arrange a similar event, let me know - happy to facilitate and can get other contributors to assist too#safety #insurance #riskmanagement

Enhanced Qualification program for #pilots from the Federal Aviation Administration #reauthorization. Sec. 372. Enhanced qualification program for restricted airline transport pilot certificate. This section requires the FAA to establish requirements for the Enhanced Qualification Program (EQP) under which air carriers are certified to provide enhanced training for pilots seeking to obtain restricted airline transport certificates, either directly by the air carrier or by certified training institutions. Under this program, the FAA must also establish curriculum for qualified instructors and evaluators to use to provide such enhanced training, and establish guidelines for an assessment that prospective pilots are required to pass in order to participate in the training under the program. The FAA must also establish a process for air carriers to apply for training program certification. The provisions of this section have no effect on the total number of flight hours required under part 61.159 of title 14, nor on the Administrator’s authority as established under section 217(d) of the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act of 2010. Wish they would have gotten rid of this nonsense or at least approve those that come up with solutions that deliver better pilots. ahem. Republic Airways https://lnkd.in/e_5Ksg8a

New Post: Tweaks to Delta SkyMiles coming in ‘days’ as CEO doubles down on need for the controversial overhaul - Delta Air Lines will announce tweaks to the overhaul of its SkyMiles frequent flyer program “in the coming days,” CEO Ed Bastian said on Thursday. But don’t expect the old program to come back.During the airline’s third-quarter earnings call, Bastian said he stood by the airline’s decision to revamp the program, even though the changes were implemented too quickly — “rip the band-aid off,” as he said previously. Want more airline-specific news? Sign up for TPG’s free biweekly Aviation newsletter.“We had too many changes rolled out at the same time,” Bastian said, “that we needed to go back and reassess the planned rollout for the new qualification levels.”“There still will be changes to the program. I’ve been very clear about that,” he added. “But we’re going to make modifications to what we announced.”Still, Bastian said, the broad overhaul was necessary, something that Bastian said most customers agreed with — even those who did not like the changes.“Everyone sees that the premium number of customers that we continue to build are in excess of the premium assets that we have to offer,” he said. “Most everyone also agrees that something has to be done.” Customers speak out: Delta changed its frequent flyer program — and customers are truly furiousBastian said that the additional changes were being made in response to direct customer feedback, rather than because of customers defecting to other airlines or shifting spend to other credit cards.“We’re not seeing any changes to trajectory, whether acquisitions, or changes to spend levels,” Bastian said. “Everything continues to stay intact.”In terms of the changes to lounge access policies, Bastian said that there was no sign of customers canceling premium credit cards en masse. To the contrary, even more customers were signing up for the cards.“We did this together with American Express and if anything, we’ve seen a shift to higher premium card acquisition.” Shifting loyalties? Alaska Airlines targets Delta with lucrative status match offerNotably, he added that the airline had received feedback from customers who supported the changes as originally announced.“We heard a full 360-degree view of the perspective,” Bastian said, “but it gave us a chance to sit back and reflect on it.”Delta announced changes to the SkyMiles Medallion program last month, which would make Medallion Qualifying Dollars — MQDs — the sole qualifying metric and also significantly raise spending requirements to reach the various levels of status. It would further emphasize spending on Delta credit cards while eliminating requirements linked to taking actual flights with the airline.Delta simultaneously announced changes to its Sky Club lounge access policies, limiting the number of times premium credit card holder
