Two days two rejects. One for a fellowship at Harvard and another for a paper submission at TPRC. The saying is that bad news comes in threes. Bring it on Saturday! It is important to recognize that life is not all unicorns and rainbows and behind every win is a string of losses. Those without Ivy League degrees and mentors in powerful places will always have to try harder. The only thing we can control is our own response and keep trying.

Vaibhav Garg, PhD: "Two days two rejects" let that not define you. Let you define you... let Saturday be defined by you. People are already watching you and your success in your chosen path. If Fellowship at Harvard is what you wish to achieve, keep trying until you get it, and you WILL. But let the third third one be something you define, of what the future aspirants will look as something they want to achieve. I joined a school 20 years back where I was the first PhD student in the department and was also the first PhD drop out and now, there has been an amazing line up of 100s of PhD candidates coming out of the program and the lab. I don't regret what I have done, if I had not chosen the school, I would have never got to know the potential it has to change the face of a region. You had two choices from what was defined to you as choices, you define the next one that you want to pave the way for others.

Beautiful attitude Vaibhav Garg, PhD. Acknowledging the competition is fierce and that there is always someone better is healthy. Last year I applied for an inaugural and quite prestigious 2 year fellowship. They told me I came second by a whisker. Sometimes in life it looks like a string of losses but someone else has lucked out because you are not there to fulfil what could have been.Thank you for your post.

Absolutely! All those seemingly effortless achievements you see passing by are actually (usually) the result of a lot of time and effort spent behind the scenes, including a lot of rejects. (Nevertheless, rejects are 💩. Wishing you better luck next time! 🍀)

From what I can see you’ve got excellent credentials. Fellowships at Harvard are scarce but I’d expect you’d get plenty of opportunities. What are you seeking?

Thought-provoking, totally agree ! I have been rejected 3 times in just 2 days, the important lesson is to keep pushing forward, even if there is a 0.1% chance, pain of not trying it is worse then the rejections !

All this funding comes at the cost of progress and investments in other sciences. Science funding should not be based on fads (we are seeing the same with AI and Quantum as well). #mypersonalopinionhttps://lnkd.in/eds5PpZi

I am happy to announce that Comcast SPIDER's simple privacy assessment solution xCompass (https://lnkd.in/e6B_vs4S) is now listed on NIST's Privacy Engineering Collaboration Space. It is one of only four tools listed for privacy risk assessment. We hope to make some updates to the solution in the coming quarters. If you'd to see something, please make a pull request. We are looking for collaborators and contributors. If you are interested, drop me or Dr. Jayati Dev (who drove the effort) a note!#privacyengineering #SPIDER #Comcast #NISThttps://lnkd.in/e7RVv9AB

In my personal opinion PEPR is one of only handful of privacy conferences worth attending. While my being on the program committee can be seen as biased but the truth is I choose to serve on this one and not others becuase of how impressive a community it represents, made all the better by the friendliness of its members. So do yourself a favor and attend this one! (Warning: Side effects may include desire to build better privacy enabling products!)
